The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority takes pride in its members who have excelled in their own fields and made a mark in Philippine medical history.
The Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority definitely went beyond the walls of UP College of Medicine in sharing knowledge on clinical epidemiology to different health professionals from other medical schools and respective medical institutions.
On the 2nd of April, EBM and Beyond: a clinical epidemiology workshop, was held in Buenafe Hall. In partnership with the prestigious UP-PGH Department of Clinical Epidemiology, different speakers shared their expertise in the field of clinical epidemiology. The event was opened by Dr. Armand Crisostomo, Associate Dean for Planning and Research of the UP College of Medicine. A series of lectures by Dr. Randy Cañal MΣΦ 1992, Dr. Roberto Ruiz MΣΦ1985, and Dr. Jojo Mantaring MΣΦ 1984 were then held the whole morning.
The night of March 29, 2016 was very much anticipated as Excellence, Knowledge, Genius (EKG), an interschool pre-medical quiz show, was held at Buenafe Auditorium, Calderon Hall, UP College of Medicine. This event was part of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority’s Scholarship Week. The hosts of the night, Alexis Dinopol and Ven Ponce of Class 2020, opened the event by introducing sis Micah Masbad, μΣΦ 2017, Most Illustrious Sister, who delivered the opening remarks. Prof. Custer C. Deocaris, Prof. Gil M. Penuliar, and Prof. Randy Joseph G. Fernandez, judges of the quiz bee, were also introduced by the hosts.
Drinks flowed on the evening of March 28 as the brods and sisses tested their wits on matters involving the fraternity, sorority, and anything under the MUn. The first ever “Alam Mu Ba” trivia show was definitely one of those nights to remember. Hosted by Sis Ances Mulles of Mu Sigma Phi Sorority Batch 2018 and Gio Dizon of Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity Batch 2020, the evening began by the introduction of the competing teams and their respective cheers. Then came the most awaited part, the competition proper. It was divided into 3 elimination rounds, and a final jeopardy round; with every round being a test on the survival of the smartest and the “fittest”. Team Timbuktu emerged as the winners consisting of Ted Campo of Class ‘20, Sis Janine Acoba μΣΦ ‘19, Brod Franco Macaspac ΜΣΦ ‘17, and Brod Allan Larona ΜΣΦ ‘08.
All for the Glory!
Brods and sisses were all set for Scholarship Week 2016 as they warmly welcomed it during the opening ceremony held last March 28, 2016, noon, at the hut. Sis Kat Ang, μΣϕ ’19, and brod Earl Cariño, ΜΣϕ ‘18, the hosts of the ceremony, kick started the event by introducing sis Joie Cañal, μΣϕ ’95, for the opening remarks. Brods and sisses who showed exemplary performance in scholarly activities were then awarded certificates of recognition by sis Anne Asis, μΣϕ ’19, and brod Mon Distor, ΜΣϕ ‘18. The closing remarks were then delivered by sis Aca Almelor μΣϕ ’16 and brod Nico Pajes ΜΣϕ ‘16. A festive lunch was then heartily shared by brods, sisses, and some members of Class 2020.
